You might also find some insight from some of the journals on this forum.
A few points that come to mind:
Have faith that you will do it. Keep that faith throughout your practice.
Focus on the object, acquire the feeling of it (what it would feel like to be the object with all of its properties - texture, density, the way it responds to psychokinesis, etc).
Focus on the effect that you want to achieve (say you were the object, what would it feel like for you to move).
Make sure there's nothing serious going on in the mind. Usually what happens is that when you see the object finally move, the mind becomes excited and starts to think about it .. a lot .. which distracts psychokinesis.
Be gentle about it, don't force it.
Be playful about it, appreciate your work even when no success can be seen.
Be inventive, come up with new ways to practice. Our minds tend to become bored really easily. Try psychokinesis on flags, trees, wind, flow of water from the tap. Perhaps practice bending the mattress before falling asleep by making bumps, dents and moving them around. Try influencing the weather. The possibilities are endless..
Have fun ;)

Yup... skepticism is like a natural enemy to PK. It's even pointless to argue with skeptics. All it does is make you feel bad and later you have a lot less success. Better to avoid them.
