Sounds like the concept of Superman being powered by the sun isn't far off then as being reality for everyone. Especially if the shields of the planet are being powered by that bombardment and the quieting of it causes it to weaken. Makes me think of brush-less motors for some reason. Probably not the best example but it does come to mind. So if I were to use this as an example of anything it seems that we absolutely must hook into a system of some kind in order to gain power otherwise we'll weaken just like a ember falling from the fire.

If earth is powered by the sun then what is the sun powered by? What if we were to connect with that other source? Would it be better? I know we can hook into the sun and moon with our energy systems to get a boost from it. Perhaps connecting with two different sources so that when one weakens we can take strength from another. Alternating current being converted into direct current so it's smoother....

Maybe a conversation for another thread?

@OrderedChaos: You can go up the scale from stars to galaxy, then clusters, etc.

While I'm not sure if there is any scientific evidence of stars directly siphoning energy from the black holes in the galaxy centers, such a hierarchical connection could be there.

While I think humans could adapt (or perhaps easily create artificial magnetic field), it's the rest of the environment that would probably be affected a lot more.
Could be a lot of seemingly unimportant indirect effects playing together into a serious problem.

I would not be surprised if black holes ended up being cosmic generators. I'm not sure what you mean by "Could be a lot of seemingly unimportant indirect effects playing together into a serious problem.". I think that when something is ebbing the other is flowing. So the whole universe breathes. Tap into both could seem like a good idea but in the end everything needs a rest period I guess and it would be bad.

I meant that things which might seem insignificant at first glance, may be playing an important role in the overall scheme of things.

I suspect that almost none of the scientists are able to see the big picture.
Some are worried about the several bird species which have become extinct within the past decade.
Some are worried about the bug species which have become extinct within the past decade.
Some are worried about the fact that coral reefs have mostly died out.
Some are worried about depression and suicides culling the fresh generations of people.

How it all plays together and how it plays out, no idea.

That makes sense. Since everything is interconnected it stands to reason we don't have a full picture since we're such a small part of it. You could argue we're a huge part of it but I don't think so.
