Awesome Trance!!! I was able to get it to turn until the point between the 2 and 3 was facing me. Any chance you could get it to allow mouse control? For example, being able to grab the wheel and spin it freely and once it slows to a stop it'll kick the code back into action? I think it'll give that added realism and sense of fluidity I'm craving. :P

I've spent all day trying to make that happen. Hope this update helps!

  • Psiwheel now spins fluidly and seems to feel quite similar to a real psiwheel's behavior. (at least with my experience) I was able to get a good bit of momentum going while practicing with this version even though there's a 1/2000 delta second chance for it to even spin. Let me know how it feels for you guys.

I finally got to testing it at home. I had tested it at work but wasn't sure if I had a powerful enough graphics card. For some reason these make my fan go at 100% on my laptop. Anyway, I'm confused at how you've got it coded. I know I shouldn't care but for some reason I do. lol. Probably because I'm wanting to see how much is me and how much is the logic in the code that is affecting it. I got it to turn enough for me to kind of see some of the 4-side going counter clockwise. The interesting thing for me though is that I have a tendency to make it go back to 2 since that's the starting side. Almost like I feel an invisible elastic tether pulling it back. Also I am seeing larger swings but also seeing the larger movements get cut off short. So I'm not entirely certain if I'm making it stop quickly and also if I'm the cause for it to stop spinning freely at about the same rotational distance. What does "1/2000 delta second" mean? Is it polling for a random number for each of those units for movement decisions? Hard to put my thoughts into words so I'm sorry if I'm being confusing.

 

EDIT: One odd behavior about the game is that when I hit esc it closes the game instead of going to the options menu and then reopens at least 3 times during the process of trying to turn off bobbing and the hands. So very weird. I have a GTX 675m graphics card if that helps.

Hi all, hope everyone's doing great. Sorry I haven't been around in a while to check and update these projects.

I've been learning UE4 and working on some other ideas. I'm anticipating I should be able to redo both the psiwheel room game and get the astral projection game in a production state at some point in the not so distant future.

Here's a couple videos of some of the recent demos I've been working on just to learn the engine:

I'll try to share updates for the psi-related games as soon as I can get around to remaking them.

Wow man. I now want to ask for the ability to get up from the chair and explore. haha. If you decided it was worth it that would be fun touch.

So do you have any documentation to go with it yet that will explain what each of the settings do? So far it all looks like it does the same thing regardless of which options I choose.

Oh and forgot to mention that the original issue I was having with your other versions keeps occurring. The game crashes and restarts 3 times before it stays open. Not sure if it's an issue with my GPU, RAM, or what. I can play games like Farcry Primal without any issues so I'm not sure it's my system.

It does that 3x crash routine for me too, & also tries to hook to Steam VR. Niot sure if VR was your intention:)

Hey guys, thank you for trying it out!

@owltwelve Yes, it is in UE4

@limpidprogress I could input movement controls, though I'm anticipating I may need to remove collision for the chair so it doesn't make it a little buggy getting back in place. There's not much to see in the small room though :) Just a few low-res props laid out to give the room a little atmosphere.

@limpidprogress As far as documentation goes, I'll reply back with screenshots to display exactly how each of the two game-modes and difficulty function.

@limpidprogress & owltwelve - Is the crash providing an error message when it occurs? If so can you provide a screenshot of it? That's interesting. I haven't heard of this happening but since it seems consistent for both of you it should be something fairly common. I'll see what the source of the crash is and provide an update at the earliest.

@owltwelve I wondered about whether to set it up for VR as well. I suppose I can add support for it, though I figured VR may provide some discomfort from the headset and reduce focus on the psiwheel over prolonged use. I think the plugin for it may have been included in the project though. Hmm. Let me know if you'd prefer having VR support in there and I can incorporate it. If not, i'll see if I can remove the plugin.

Haha you don't have to put in movement. I think the added effort would likely be a waste of your time and energy. Sadly there are no error messages when it happens. Are there any logs that would help that get generated?

Hey guys, sorry for the late response. I got caught up with uni and finishing the semester.

So I haven't found much online with other people experiencing the 3x crash routine. But apparently there should be a log file generated here:

  • Windows: PackagedDirectory/ProjectName/Saved/Logs/ProjectName.log

Can anyone who tested see if they can email me the log file? espervisions@gmail.com

Tranceffect257, on a different subject, I was wondering if you have experience with the unity engine as well as unreal, & if so which do you like better? I was thinking of making a VR version of an astral temple I like to visit while out of body. I have found that I tend to get vivid lucid dreams of games I play in VR:)
